Middlesbrough College has scooped a major award for its contribution to the regeneration of Middlesbrough.

The College has been named as one of six winners in a national competition which attracted forty entries from regeneration projects located throughout the country.
The BURA Awards for Best Practice in Regeneration seek to identify and promote projects that are making a positive contribution to economic regeneration, acting as catalysts for wider regeneration and creating a self-sustaining momentum with long-term benefits for local communities.
“We are delighted to receive this award, as the regeneration of Middlesbrough was a key factor in our relocation to Middlehaven”, said John Hogg, Principal and Chief Executive of the College.
“When we made the decision to relocate to Middlehaven, we faced a lot of questions from people. The area had been derelict for over twenty years and people wondered what we were up to. The impact on local trade, on the town centre, and on the cultural, social and economic life of Middlesbrough has come as a major surprise to many of those people. But we always knew that we could be a major catalyst for regeneration. The judges of this competition have recognised that we have achieved what we set out to do.”
John Hogg also recognised that the development of the overall Middlehaven area still has some way to go.
“We have had a major impact already, but this is just the first stage in a process that will transform Middlesbrough beyond recognition”, said the Principal.
“We have enjoyed working with our partners in what has been achieved so far, and look forward to continuing to be a key player in the regeneration agenda. Today, however, is a chance to celebrate what has been achieved already”.
