2,000 'Z' cards featuring key facts on Middlesbrough have been produced by the lovemiddlesbrough team. Aimed at business people, the cards aim to dispel the myths about Middlesbrough, provide key facts and increase local pride. The cards feature information on regeneration and business, the environment, digital media and animation, culture, learning and sport.
The 'Z' cards form part of a toolkit that is being developed for the Ambassador Club programme. The Ambassador Club is an initiative to work in close partnership with organisations, businesses and individuals on joint projects to highlight the success stories of Middlesbrough in an innovative but educational way and also provide networking opportunities.
Claire Wordsworth, Image Campaign Manager for Middlesbrough Council said " By highlighting success stories, we will continue to change perceptions of Middlesbrough and consequently the Tees Valley at a regional and national level, helping to secure more investment. This information card will help spread the word about our vibrant town. A town that is regenerating itself and is full of resourcefulness, creativity and talent."
Some of the facts featured include that Middlesbrough is principally a service economy - 90% of jobs are in the service sector. It also highlights the importance of Teesside University to the town.
Alastair Thomson, Dean of Teesside Business School said "Around £120 million has been invested in Teesside University campus in recent years with a £17 million building for Sport and Health Sciences being the latest addition. Our student numbers have risen to over 25,000 and the total gross domestic economic impact of the University is estimated to be £815 million pounds per year to the local economy. We see Middlesbrough very much as a University Town rather than the post-industrial image that is usually portrayed in the media and are delighted to support the lovemiddlesbrough campaign."
The 'Z' cards are being distributed through the Middlesbrough Business Forum Breakfast Exchange and in response to requests from lovemiddlesbrough.com. For a copy of the guide please call Claire Wordsworth on 01642 729143
