Budding Richard Bransons and Steve Gibsons are being challenged to brush up their entrepreneurial and sales skills with Boro – and there’s the chance to “Win the Riverside” for the students who show the most initiative!
Sixth-formers from Middlesbrough’s Macmillan Academy were the first to take up the exciting learning opportunity this season when they visited the stadium for a special briefing session.
There, Middlesbrough Football Club’s Head of Supporter Services Anthony Emmerson and Group Sales account executive Liam Hamilton explained their roles and outlined the task they face.
The BTEC Sport students will now formulate an action plan with the aim of bringing as many family and friends as possible to join the Matchday Experience at Boro’s home game against Wolves on Saturday December 15.
“The project is ideal for young people studying the ‘Organising a Sports Event’ module on these courses,” explained Anthony.
“Last year, Prior Pursglove College in Guisborough were our winners after they managed to bring 350 fans along to join in the Matchday Experiences, while Trinity College in Middlesbrough and Eston Park were not far behind them.
“We devised this programme alongside teachers and feedback has been excellent. All the work we do is cross referenced with key curriculum points and we’re hoping that this year even more schools and colleges will take up the challenge and get involved, learning vital new skills along the way.”
The Matchday Experience enables local clubs and organisations to buy heavily-discounted match tickets for members, their families and friends and get involved in once-in-a-lifetime activities including the player walkout, pre-match six-a-side, dancing displays and half-time penalties.
The students who sell the most Matchday Experience tickets will get use of the Riverside Stadium for half a day at the end of the season, to use as they wish for purposes such as full-scale games on the pitch or maybe even a prom.
To take part in the Win the Riverside challenge, or for more information about our Matchday Experience packages, please contact Liam Hamilton on 01642 757683 or Kathryn Walker on 01642 757661.
