

Hemlington Recreation Centre is situated about 5 miles from the centre of Middlesbrough. The site covers an area of approximately 39 acres of open parkland and is split into two sites; Hemlington Recreation Centre and Hemlington Hall Farm outbuildings. The lake is host to a wide variety of wildlife, including kingfishers, mute swans, tufted and ruddy ducks and many seasonal visitors as well as a thriving population of watervoles, Britain’s fastest declining mammal. The farm outbuildings are used for a range of activities; as a drop in facility for the Linx detached youth work project, changing facilities for the football pitches, canoe and kayak storage areas and a small, recently re-furbished classroom.
Hemlington boasts a wide range of facilities. These include:
Indoor – Activity Hall, Changing Rooms, Bouncy Castle & Adventure Room, Sunbed, ‘The Gym’ – Fitness Room, Various Activities and Classes for children and babies (Fun 4 Baby, Baby & Weenie Gym, Pre School, Ballet, Karate, KidzPower), and fitness classes for adults (Yoga, 50+aerobics, GP Referral, Walking Group). The activity room, bouncy castle/adventure room are also available for private hire for groups, schools and parties.
Outdoor – 9 Acre Man Made Lake, 2 Grassed Senior & 1 Grassed Junior Football Pitch, Children’s Play Area, Floodlit Multi Court, Skateboard Park, Dawn to Dusk Angling, Canoeing Facilities Available (on request), 1.25 mile Running Circuit.
The Site is open to the public 24 hours a day 52 weeks of the year, although recently installed fencing restricts the access of motor vehicles. Pedestrians have open access.
The centre is open:
Monday to Thursday 9.00am – 8.30pm
Friday 9.00am – 6.00pm
Saturday & Sunday 9.00am – 5.00pm
Disabled access
Both sites have disabled access and are CCTV monitored. As part of the angling developments the centre has purchased a golf buggy which will be used to transport disabled anglers to and from the lake. Anglers will be able to leave their cars in the car park which is covered by CCTV and arrange a time to be collected.
Information for schools and groups
Looking for somewhere to go for your end of year summer treat of for that something different for the children then why not hire out our ‘Fun Box’ Room and/or large bouncy castle and soft play.
This room has been specifically built for the under 5’s, but is suitable and accessible for those children (of all ages) with special needs. It consists of a small boll pool with slide, a soft-play/padded two storey den and ‘funny mirror’, with padded floors incorporating a hopscotch grid and padded walls complete with interactive panels. To along with this room we will also provide a very large bouncy castle, matted area and many pieces of soft play which will keep the children amused for hours.
There is also adjacent to the activity room a kitchen which is available for yourselves to make juice.
And for the over 5’s you can just hire out the bouncy castle and soft play

Hiring Hemlington Lake & Recreation Centre for Your Own Events and Activities
The activity room and its facilities are available for hire for private parties, community groups, and organisations (events, meetings, training courses, etc) as is the lake and surrounding open spaces.

Bus: Number 12 stops directly outside the site and number 13 stops at Viewley shops. Both can be taken from stand 14 at Middlesbrough Bus Station.
