The call is out to celebrate town's successes! Middlesbrough Football Club, the Council's Cultural Services team and a host of partners are looking to expand this year's Discover Middlesbrough event to really celebrate what the town has to offer.
From September 6th through to 20th businesses, sports, arts, community groups and a range of organisations are looking to stage a wide range of events that truly offer the opportunity to show off Middlesbrough, locally and nationally.
Head of Cultural Services, Juliet Farrar said: "We've been running Discover Middlesbrough for a couple of years now but we've always had ambitions to grow the project by bringing even more partners and ideas together to develop a high calibre Middlesbrough Festival. The time is right to build on the success of the 16 organisations and events that made up last year's programme - everything from power boat trips to bridge climbing to magical mystery tours. We can now add to the mix the success of the Dott 07 Town Meal and Urban Farming project, as well as the potential for exciting performing arts and other events."
Suzannah Clarke, local opera singer, is hoping to bring a North Korean Orchestra to the town as part of the international links within the festival.
With enthusiastic partners on board such as Middlesbrough Football Club and the University of Teesside, who will be showcasing their innovative work, it is hoped that other organisations will be encouraged to get involved and show off what they are achieving and contributing to the life of the town.
Dave Allen of Middlesbrough Football Club said: "As a flagship of the town, Middlesbrough Football Club will be proud to support a drive to raise Middlesbrough's profile and standing. We believe Middlesbrough has much to be proud of, can boast a great heritage and can look forward to a bright future. We are looking forward to working with the Council and other partners to celebrate all that is great about Middlesbrough."
