A travelling exhibition featuring a photographic record of the hugely successful BBC Proms in the Park at Middlesbrough's Centre Square on 8 September 2007, sponsored by NS&I, is currently on show at Darlington Arts Centre until 23 June.
Three BA Photography students from Cleveland College of Art & Design were commisioned by Middlesbrough Council Cultural Services to record a photographic diary of the event which is now being exhibited at Darlington Arts Centre.
The students, Matthew Case, Jill Cole and Paul Sudlow captured the magic of the event on camera - from the set-up on the day to the fireworks at the end. Visitors to the photographic exhibition will see images of local recording duo, Journey South warming up the crowds and the breathtaking solo by Northern Sinfonia's principal violinist, Bradley Creswick.
In 2007 the Tees Valley was chosen as a new host for BBC Proms in the Park. The nationally renowned event, sponsored by NS&I (National Savings and Investments), saw over 5,500 people take part in the famous Last Night of the Proms celebrations in Middlesbrough's Centre Square.
Juliet Farrar, Head of Middlesbrough Cultural Services said: "This exhibition celebrates and captures the excitement of the day and the performance when Tees Valley took centre stage for one of the country's most prestigious annual music event. "
"Thousands flocked to centre square to watch it live, millions viewed it on television and listened to it on the radio. This is a chance for them to re-live the spectacular occasion and also for us to share it with people who were unable to get there on the day. The Photographers must be commended for the excellent quality of the work produced - the event provided a great opportunity to showcase a range of local talent before, during and after the event."
The exhibition will be on show at Kirkleatham Museum, Redcar from 21 July until the end of August. It will then move to Middlesbrough Council Civic Centre in September.
