TV sensations Stavros Flatley have been snapped up for a once-in-a-lifetime Chinese tour – and have consequently been forced to move their eagerly anticipated show at Middlesbrough Town Hall to the new date of Saturday 24 April [they’re now in Shanghai on the original show date of March 13].
All original tickets are still valid for the new date, where the Greek stars are special guests of huge local favourites The Wildcats of Kilkenny and Bob Marley tribute act Zion for what promises to be one of the best North East gigs of the year.
The hilarious father and son duo - Demitrios and Michalakis Lagi - describe themselves as ‘two fat versions of a Greek Michael Flatley.'
They took the country by storm last year, wowing a TV audience of millions and reaching the grand final of ITV’s smash hit Britain’s Got Talent.
Riverdance was never meant to be like this – but they melted the hearts of judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan and the public alike, and came within a whisker of grabbing the big prize and dancing for the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance.
Tickets were already selling quickly for the amazing three-pronged Boro show – and the brand new date means that ticketholders will still get a chance to see the full original line-up.
Wildcats frontman Mike McGrother said: “Well, that’s what you get when you’re dealing with international superstars I suppose. To be honest though, we’ve played in China ourselves and we couldn’t really stand in Stavros’ way on this.
“We weighed up the option of changing the line up to keep the original date but the feedback we got – and massive demand for tickets and interest in the show - meant that a date change was the best move.”
“We can only apologise to anyone who can’t now make the new date – from the early feedback, it seems that most people can make it on the 24th, so hopefully we won’t up disappointing too many of the original ticketholders.
“This looks like it’s going to be our busiest ever indoor show. We’ve been really looking forward to it, and although the delay’s a bit of a tease – we can promise that it’ll be worth the wait in the end!”
