Type: Exhibition

The landmark Co-op building on Linthorpe Road, will open its doors to a different type of customer this summer. The whole of the first floor will be taken over by a unique art exhibition, created from works by local community groups, school children, regional and international artists.

The exhibition, Learning to Love You More, has been curated by artist Nicky Peacock and organised by the regional arts organisation MAP. It was inspired by the popular web based art project that American artists Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher founded in 2002. Similar exhibitions have taken place in The Whitney Museum in New York and Yokohama Museum in Japan.

The exhibition is an eclectic mix of film, musical compositions, photography, drawing, sculpture and textiles and hopes to give visitors the opportunity to experience art in all its forms, be that hearing, seeing, reading or even dancing to art!

The exhibition gained interest from the local business community and as a result, Learning to Love You More was offered in-kind support from Python Properties, NPS Media, Digital City and Jarreds Office Supplies. Peter Broome the Director from Python Properties said; ‘We’ve been supporting arts in the region for some time now so when we heard about Learning to Love You More, the space at the Co-op building immediately sprung to mind’.

The newly renovated art deco building is the perfect venue for this exhibition, being sympathetically renovated whilst offering the vast loft style space to accommodate the large number of artworks submitted by the various community groups and artists.

Bob Harvey, Director at NPS Media said ‘Offering our support has enabled MAP to exhibit a number of art works in different media, giving them a chance to shine’.

There is a private view for Learning To Love You More is on 25th July, 7-10pm.
