Up and coming underground legend Patrick Wolf will be the first live music act to take centre stage at mima. Appearing on Friday 30th November, the flamoyant Bowie-esque performer promises to set mima's quiet spaces alight with a riot of song and colour as mima edges towards a more diverse performance programme.
At 23 years old, Patrick already has three critically acclaimed full length solo albums under his belt, he's blown absolutely everybody away with some stunning summer festival performances at the likes of Leeds/Reading, Benicassim and Lattitude, it seems that there has never been a better time to be, or to see, Patrick Wolf.
The roots of Wolf's music stretch far, wide and beyond - from PJ Harvey to Stockhausen, English folk music to the grand old Chet Baker - and it seems the diversity and turbulence of his life experience to date have done nothing but add to the depth and passion of his creation. His most recent album 'The Magic Position' features guest performances by Marianne Faithfull and Edward Larrikin from Larrikin Love, and has been lauded as one of 2007's finest releases by the likes of Q, NME, Drowned In Sound and Uncut.
Ground breaking? Definitely. Theatrical? For sure. Wonderful? Absolutely.
"Every year someone you least expect takes this fesWhat The Press Are Sayingtival by storm. The 23-year old whizzkid has been there or thereabouts since February's The Magic Position album, but his amazing upping of the ante here suggests that 2008 will be the year of the Wolf. 9.5/10"
The Guardian
"If you were looking for a new Bowie, Patrick Wolf is proving himself the Thin White Duke's successor in more than just his extravagant dress sense"
NME
"There are precious few people making music today who imbue it with as much flair as Patrick Wolf. He stands out as a magician among carpenters..."
