Edmund de Waal at mimaLook out for this major solo show by one of Britain's most significant artists.

Edmund de Waal at mima (9 August - 11 November 2007) presents the most sustained exploration to date of the artist's major concern, looking at the culture of display and the dialogue that can be formed between ceramics and the architectural environment.

Moving from individual vessels to installations or cargoes, de Waal's work is based around the repetition of porcelain cylinder forms which are grouped to articulate an aspect of the building in which they are placed. He is especially interested in how the meaning of an installation can be altered by re-housing it in a different location. In this way he refers to his work as site sensitive rather than site specific.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a major monograph featuring photography by Hélène Binet, which captures this sense of dialogue in de Waal's work.
