'Participate and Celebrate' at Middlesbrough's Mega Weekend Mela, taking place on 19th and 20th July and promising to be yet another spectacular event.
Participate on Saturday at the Sports Mela. Expect to get involved by sampling anything from belly dancing to trampolining, tai chi to boxing or circus skills, fishing and orienteering and traditional games such as quoits and hoopla. Try healthy, delicious foods from Ready Steady Cook and witness stunning demonstrations from martial arts specialists. Got a bike? Bring it along (on Saturday only) to get a bike MOT and learn how to fix it yourself.
Celebrate on Sunday with a richly diverse mix of cultures and acts including one of Punjabi music's finest singers and performers Jassi Sidhu; pioneers of Bhangra, Silinder Pardesi; India's answer to Destiny's Child, Serese; and fabulous boy band, 3mix. Also featuring an exquisite fashion show by Suits Me on the main stage. Not just a music festival the Sunday Mela includes a feast of other events and performances. In the Global Area see Faceless Theatre's presentation of their beautiful outdoor theatre adventure 'Conference of the Birds' and follow the Carnival Crew Tees Valley procession to get you dancing to their sensational rhythms. Plus local performers and workshops in the Global Area bring you fantastic experiences from around the world.
The Middlesbrough Mega Mela is at Albert Park, off Linthorpe Road. 'Participate and Celebrate' are both family friendly days specially created for maximum fun and new experiences with free entrance.
