June 1 - 30, 2009
June will herald the arrival of Middlesbrough's first literary festival organised and delivered by Middlesbrough Library and Information Service. Drawing on our successes during 2008's National Year of Reading, we will be bringing you an eclectic mix of authors, artists and musicians all with a great tale to tell.
Internationally renowned authors and artists such as Anne Perry and Lindsay Wagner, cream of the crop of local talent, Richard Milward, Vin Garbutt, Marion Husband and many more will be appearing. Our ever-popular 'Girls Night In' will return for it's third year, and there'll be an open mic evening, an opportunity for people to get up on the mic and show us their talents!
There will also be a variety of creative writing workshops to bring out the author in you; a Musha'ra which is a traditional occasion of poetry readings from the Indian sub-continent and a nostalgic children's television quiz for everybody who remembers The Clangers, Bagpuss, Grange Hill, Rentaghost and other television gems from yesteryear.
For our younger audience top children's authors Adam Bushnell and Rosalind Kerven along with children's illustrator Liz Million and renowned local scriptwriter Dean Wilkinson will be joining us.
All the events will be held in various libraries throughout Middlesbrough and contact details are listed in the brochure.
We hope that everybody will enjoy our very first literary festival and join with us in celebrating the joy of the written and spoken word.
