Middlesbrough’s reputation for great running events in the North East is again confirmed with the unveiling of the 2010 road race series.
The Runmiddlesbrough programme contains something for runners of all ages and abilities, from a 2km fun run right up to September’s flagship Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10k Road Race.
The fun gets under way with the Sport Relief Mile in the town’s Albert Park on Sunday, March 21.
The high-profile event – with runners choosing between one, three and six miles while raising funds for a great cause – has been launched this week by former Olympian Allison Curbishley and local runner Ricky Stevenson who won last year’s Elite Mile event.
Ricky’s likely to be back in action on Sunday, May 16 when the Runmiddlesbrough Invitation Mile draws crowds to the town centre, while thousands of runners will be competing at a more leisurely pace in the event’s 2km and 5km Fun Runs.
The 6th Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10k Road Race and 3k PCT Fun Run will be bigger, brighter and better than ever when 4,000+ runners cross the start line on Sunday, September 5.

Councillor Brenda Thompson, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “We have a range of events that are the envy of the running world, with something for everyone, from walkers to the very best elite athletes.
“The races offer a fantastic opportunity to get in shape, and many people taking part will be raising funds for good causes.
“Middlesbrough’s reputation as a great place to run is spreading fast and we’re starting to get entries from across the UK and beyond.
“I’m confident 2010 will see record fields in all our races – so I’d urge everyone to get their entries in early and get those training programmes under way!”
