Theatre and entertainment

Middlesbrough has three main arts and entertainment venues that between them host an impressive programme of drama, comedy, dance and music.

Middlesbrough Town Hall and the Crypt

Town Hall

The Victorian Gothic Town Hall is one of Middlesbrough's most distinctive buildings, providing an ideal-sized setting for big name, mainstream live acts and productions from across the UK. The Town Hall's typical line up include live bands, tribute acts, classical performances, drama, comedy, musicals, pantomime and dance. Previous acts that have visited are Jimmy Carr, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Arctic Monkeys and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra.

Middlesbrough Theatre

Middlesbrough Theatre presents the Michael Friend production of Private Lives by Noel Coward.

Middlesbrough Theatre is a more intimate venue that stages a mixture of classical and contemporary productions including orchestral performances, plays, ballet, musicals and live comedy. Middlesbrough Theatre was one of the first modern theatres to be built in England after the Second World War.

In addition, Middlesbrough Theatre programmes family shows and studio dramas in the Town Hall Crypt as part of its ‘Theatre-Go-Round.’
