Braziliant! is Middlesbrough’s own celebration of Brazilian music, arts and culture. A bi-annual summer fiesta; co-ordinated by Middlesbrough based creative studio Tubbyphunk and its artistic director Robert Page in conjunction with Middlesbrough Council’s audience development strategy.
This year’s event is headlined by the unofficial ambassador to all things Brazilian ‘DJ Cliffy’ from London’s hugely successful ‘Batmacumba’ club night which has become a monthly institution in London showcasing international talent on a regular basis. Cliffy will be joined by Spiritual South (who together form Sugarloaf Gangsters, with highly sought after releases on the GAMM label) whose Latin inspired productions are held in high regard with international globetrotting DJs from Gilles Peterson through to Fatboy Slim.
Added attractions for the night will include a mobile cinema in a caravan which will preview DJ Cliffy’s new DVD/CD highlighting the work of NGO’s and charities in Salvador, Brazil plus further Capioera demonstrations from Professor Bocao and members of Newcastle’s Filhao de Bimbao.
To compliment the event we will be preparing a Brazilian inspired cook-out (BBQ if you like!) with Caipirihnas, mojitos and ice cold brahma’s to move the celebrations along in the right direction.
Check out our website, which gives you the chance to get an overview of our festival, listen to Brazilian sound samplers and take a look at the corresponding education workshops raising awareness of Brazilian Culture across the Tees Valley plus archives from 2006 event.
