Supergay Weekend

Supergay is Middlesbrough's annual celebration of gay culture across the Tees Valley. After the success of the SuperGay Weekend in 2007, organisers have confirmed a similar festival will go ahead this year - only this time, bigger!

The SuperGay Weekend was designed to celebrate Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender life in Middlesbrough and break down barriers between communities, with a bit of fun thrown in here and there! The 2007 event attracted over 1500 people.

SuperGay was the brainchild of community leaders and commercial operators and saw a management group guide the proceedings with representatives on board from MVDA, The Oak, Cleveland Police, Mesmac North East and Middlesbrough Council.

Simon Hatfield is part of the organising committee and spoke positively about the first event in 2007: "The response from not only the Gay Community, but from the entire North East Community was fantastic, it really showed that Middlesbrough was a progressive town, truly moving forward. We are already planning to beat the events we put on last year with an extended schedule."

SuperGay 2008 hopes to attract many more people with it’s diverse programme, introducing LGBT authors, live music, theatre and film to the running order:

6-11pm: LGBT Film & Theatre Event @ The Crypt

Friday 12th September:
7pm-late: Drag Idol @ The Oak
11pm-3.30am: Pout for Pride @ Onyx Rooms

Saturday 13th September:
11.30am: LGBT Pride March
12-3pm: Centre Square fun day opened by Mayor Ray Mallon, with 90’s pop sensation Lolly (Hey Mickey), live bands, DJs and stalls
7PM-very late: Satur-Gay @ The Oak & The Cornerhouse

Sunday 14th September:
3pm: Lesbian 5 a-side football @ Albert Park
7pm-late: Super-Heroes & Villains closing party @ The Oak
11pm-3.30am: Superstar boudoir @ The Empire
