New friendships and nostalgic table games were enjoyed by more than 30 Ageing Better Middlesbrough members last Thursday (23 November) at the latest Café Meet Up launch party.
Held at Turtle Bay, a Caribbean Social, the monthly get together forms part of the Café Meet Up initiative set up by Ageing Better Middlesbrough. This programme, funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund, is working to tackle loneliness and social isolation in older people. Its Café meet Ups are a chance for people to come together for a hot drink and some company.
Turtle Bay Assistant Manager Ryan Sullivan said: “It has been brilliant to welcome new people into Turtle Bay. Lots of people think it is just for younger people here but we are a place for everyone.
“Our staff really enjoyed playing games with Ageing Better members. The atmosphere has been electric and we are looking forward to the next one already.”
Phillip Newton from Pallister Park, 61, attended the event and said: “I didn’t know anyone but I have really enjoyed it. I will be coming back in January.”
Ageing Better Middlesbrough has over 1800 members who receive regular information about what is happening in Middlesbrough, helping people to stay active and connected to their community.
