Ageing Better Middlesbrough volunteer treasure hunt in Albert Park

A local charity, that works to reduce loneliness and isolation for people aged 50 and over, has celebrated its volunteers as part of Volunteer Week 2018.

Ageing Better Middlesbrough, a National Lottery funded programme set up by the Big Lottery Fund, organised a treasure hunt and afternoon tea yesterday (7 June) to show its thanks for the hard work, time and support that its volunteers give.

Hannah Warburton, Communications Manager at Ageing Better Middlesbrough, said: “Our volunteers are at the very heart of what we do and are crucial in helping reduce loneliness and isolation for older people living in Middlesbrough.

“From working with us to deliver and develop our programme, leading group activities, serving refreshments, administrative support and shouting about our free membership to their friends, families and the older people they meet out and about – they are magnificent.”

June Eccles, 83 from Nunthorpe, Volunteer and Ageing Better Middlesbrough member said: “Volunteering gives me something to focus on. I like to be involved and want to do more in the future.

"I have lots of exciting ideas for future taster sessions at Ageing Better Middlesbrough."

To find out more about the project, how to get more involved and to join its free membership go to www.ageingbettermiddlesbrough.org.uk or call 01642 257034.
