Vistorian industrialist Henry Bolckow is considered a founder of modern Middlesbrough. His elegant residence Marton Hall was built in 1856. It was later the Stewart Park Museum. In 1928 the building housed the Captain Cook Bicentenary exhibition organised by Dr Frank Elgee, Curator of the Dorman Museum. The building burnt down in a fire in 1960 and all that remains is this colonnade.
