Meet the author: Khadim Hussain

Local writer Khadim Hussain reads from his new poetry collection The Basics.

The brand-new show from Riverbank Productions tells the story of Dr John Dolittle MD whose parrot Polynesia teaches him how to speak to animals! Of course this enables him to become a first-class animal doctor.

One day a monkey from Africa arrives and asks him if he can journey to his homeland to cure a colony of monkeys of a dreadful disease. So, accompanied by his trusty friends, Dab-Dab the duck, Gub Gub the pig, Too Too the owl and Jip the dog, Dr Doolittle embarks on an unforgettable journey to Africa and the adventure begins.

Some of the animals in the production are played by puppets and others by the actors. As well as all the animals and the doctor himself, you may expect to meet such characters as Princess Bumpo, some swarthy pirates and a short-sighted horse!

Featuring new songs, especially composed for the show plus sing-along favourites, humour and lots of joining in, Dr Doolittle is the ideal show for all the family and particularly for children aged 5 to 10.

Middlesbrough Theatre has quite a remarkable history. From it's conception in the late 1920's to its opening as the first architect-designed theatre to be built after the Second World War - it is the result of a 27-year dream and the unswerving dedication of theatre lovers in Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough Theatre has an intimacy that belies its 486 seat capacity. A winning combination that has enabled the theatre to play host to a wide variety of performances from big bands and stand-up comedy to full-scale amateur musicals and Indian dance.

Middlesbrough Theatre continues to serve its community hosting performances from leading actors and renowned companies as well as by providing first class facilities to local amateur operatic and dramatic societies as well as young students from local dance schools and performing arts colleges.
